  • Again I'm first! I was so eager to hear about your first days on the job and after reading your vivid descriptions, I am left with a sadness that must be felt tenfold by you. But, you are right about the resiliency of the human spirit and the ability of the children to find ways to play. I hope you also find a way to play. Love, Julie

  • Brian-Your dad has forwarded the access website to your blog. I have read it all and (like Jacki) am more than impressed with your writing abilities. It is obvious that you have benefited greatly by not being home schooled by your dad. lol.
As I sometimes become depressed by the state of the world, and wonder how it might become a better place for us all, I am gratified to know that there are people like you who place the world condition above their own. The work you are doing is special and I am comforted to know that it is a special person who is doing that work. Mazel Tov!
In my experiences I have met and enjoyed many people from around the planet. I have to believe that most are good and gentle and doing the best they can given the circumstance of their birth place. "There, for the grace of God, go I". I am very confident that you will thrive and learn and teach and grow and will return home with a life perspective that so very few of us can acknowledge beyond the sincere, but mostly accommodating, nod of pretended comprehension suggesting that we share some intellectual element of your adventure. Your experience is a reminder to us all that we need to share this planet in all it facets and that is the responsibility of us all to participate in it's positive development. It is not enough to be vicarious witnesses to your activity. Shame on us all for not being more personally involved.
Please feel free to contact me directly if there are any goods or services you need that I might help in facilitating on your behalf. I am available to you and encourage you to take advantage of my energy in acquiring resources on your behalf. It is, without doubt, the LEAST that I can do.
Please heed Jacki's advice and be street smart. Growing up in Chicago may be your greatest intangible asset in navigating Ghana. Don't let your guard down as you open your heart while you open their eyes.
    All my best.............FBK

  • Amazing!! A nice Jewish boy from Wilmette in Ghana!! The Levy's are reading your blog entries touched by your writing and seeing Ghana thru your eyes. Whoever you meet will be touched by your kind and warm spirit. Are you playing any soccer yet? Let us know if we can be of any help.
